While many CME courses and medical conferences are free these days, some of the more specialized or popular courses have registration fees. In addition, in-state conferences, led by our Nevada advocacy partners, also have fees to attend. The Nevada Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (Nevada AAP) is proud to offer scholarships to encourage members to participate in conferences and then share what they’ve learned with their fellow members.
MEMBER ELIGIBILITY
All Nevada AAP Members in good standing are eligible to apply. If approved to receive the funds, you must submit paid receipts and agreed upon deliverables within 30 days of the conference/activity. Favorability will be given to members who have not received a scholarship within the previous 6-month period.
ELIGIBILE CONFERENCE
Chapter members are allowed to apply for a scholarship for any conference they wish, however, only conferences that support our Chapter's mission to improve pediatric outcomes in Nevada are likely to be approved. Applications for funds to attend conferences given by the AAP or conferences held by in-state advocacy partners will be favored. Examples of conference likely to be approved are the AAP National Conference, the AAP Advocacy Conference, AAP Prep courses and other live and virtual activities, and the Nevada Health Conference.
PROCESS
All applications must be approved by the Chapter President and there will be a limit on the number of scholarships awarded each year. Applications are reviewed as they are received and approved/denied within two weeks of receiving the application.
USE OF FUNDS
Scholarship funds are primarily intended to cover the early-bird fee of a conference. That said, applicants are welcome to make a case in their application for additional funds to cover travel, hotel, and meals during the event.
The Nevada AAP is almost entirely run by members who volunteer their time and talents resulting in improved pediatric outcomes in Nevada and leadership experience for the volunteer. Serving on the Chapter Board may qualify AAP members for national leadership.
Nevada AAP Members promote themselves and their practice through many of our Chapter programs including member email update, website videos, Walk with a Doc, Camine con un Doctor, advocacy work, press interviews, and our Blog. Chapter members looking to participate in any of our programs are encouraged to contact us.
