The Nevada AAP is entirely run by members who volunteer their time and talents resulting in improved pediatric outcomes in Nevada and leadership experience for the volunteer. Serving as a Chapter Champion may qualify Nevada AAP members for national leadership.
We are continuously seeking chapter members who want to take a leadership role. Here is a list of open roles at the Nevada AAP. In addition to these, Nevada AAP members are invited to propose additional roles focused on a pediatric issue they are passionate about.
Open National AAP Chapter Champion Positions in Nevada
A Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinator (CBC) is an ambassador of the Section on Breastfeeding (SOBr), providing leadership in promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding in their state chapters and communities. A CBC will work to implement the SOBr strategic plan and fulfill the SOBr mission and vision statements within their chapters and communities.
Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Champion
The aim of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) EHDI Chapter Champions program is to promote team-based, family-centered care coordination among patients and their families, primary care pediatricians, and other health care providers for children identified as Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH).
Chapter Oral Health Advocates (COHAs) are pediatricians in each chapter who advocate for children's oral health issues and train others about integrating oral health into primary care. Each COHA is asked to: Deliver at least 4 trainings annually on how to incorporate oral health into the medical home; Advocate for children's oral health issues at the state and local levels; Connect pediatricians to others working in their community to improve children's oral health; Build relationships with dental colleagues in their communities and dental societies to improve access to oral health care. COHAs must be approved by their Chapters and have a 3 year renewable term.
Osteopathic Pediatrics and Pediatricians Chapter Liaison
To foster good working relations between state osteopathic associations and their allopathic counterparts, the Section on Osteopathic Pediatricians created DO Chapter Liaisons. DO Chapter Liaisons communicate with the local AAP chapter and share information between the Section and the local chapter.
The AAP is partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to identify a cohort of pediatrician leaders in youth suicide prevention. Suicide Prevention Ambassadors provide leadership, subject matter expertise, and serve as the main point of contact within their chapters to conduct and promote youth suicide prevention activities.
