For kids, what they drink can be almost as important as what they eat, in terms of a healthy diet. In this public service announcement from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Shelly Flais offers simple recommendations for healthy beverages. For more information about child nutrition, visit HealthyChildren.org, the American Academy of Pediatrics website for parents.

Nevada Statewide Maternal Child Health Coalition

To better serve the entire state of Nevada, the Maternal and Child Health Coalition offers membership, resources and support in Northern and Southern Nevada.  Together, the Northern and Southern Nevada Coalitions serve to nurture and enhance the knowledge and capacity of the healthcare community to better serve the needs of families.

We would like to share a few updates and resources related to Maternal and Child Health.

  • CARA Plan of Care. Please click here to access a fact sheet for health care providers.
  • PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) is a joint research project between the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The purpose is to find out why some babies are born healthy and others are not. To do this, the PRAMS questionnaire asks new mothers about their behaviors and experiences before, during, and after their pregnancy. Each year in Nevada there are hundreds of babies born with serious health problems. Answers to the PRAMS survey will help us to learn more about ways to improve the health of mothers and babies in Nevada. Learn more, https://dpbh.nv.gov/Programs/PRAMS/PRAMS/.
  • October is Safe Sleep Awareness month. Parents, grandparents, relatives, child care providers and everyone caring for infants is encouraged to learn more about infant safe sleep practices and follow the ABCs of safe sleep by placing a baby to sleep alone on their back and in a crib at all times. Learn more, https://dhhs.nv.gov/Reports/Press_Releases/2021/October_is_Sudden_Unexpected_Infant_Death_Awareness_Month/
